This makes me sick →
I don’t even want to promote this but seriously, I don’t understand how people think that spending this amount of money on material items is anything but disgusting. Celebrities have the money, power, and spotlight to make a difference and they just waste our time.

Are There Natural Human Rights? →
There are two avenues by which to address the truth of the natural basis of human rights: (a) whether authors argued for human rights before the European Enlightenment, and (b) whether there is a logical basis for human rights that would demonstrate its applicability to all people regardless of when it was recognized to be correct.
The way we think about the turmoil in the Middle East and North...

imakeshinythings:
One of my lovely customers sent me a message today with this link.
And here is my United/World of Love line:
My heart sank a little bit. The World/United States of Love line that I created is one of the reasons that I was able to quit my full-time job. They even stole the item name as well as some of my copy.
I’m very disappointed in Urban Outfitters. I know they...

Question from sshelbia
Hey!
I was recently browsing Tumblr and stumbled upon your answer to a question about traveling for work…. I’m a 16 year old and am planning to attend an abroad program in South Africa for five weeks this Summer. This will be my first time out of the country and I’m a little nervous. After reading how much you have traveled around the world, I was wondering if you might have any advice for...

Ryan Seacrest in Knocked Up
Great. We’ll talk about the Middle East and maybe an idea of an exit strategy. Maybe she has a good pitch. Should I ask her about Korea? Maybe have her point it out to us on a globe?

How to grow your own clothes →
“I’m essentially using a kombucha recipe, which is a symbiotic mix of bacteria, yeasts and other microorganisms, which spin cellulose in a fermentation process. Over time, these tiny threads form in the liquid into layers and produce a mat on the surface.”

According to the 2000 Census, the latest data available, more than 400,000 people living in the U.S. are of Hispanic American Indian origins.

I guess me taking Quechua as an elective for my Master’s might come in handy! Also, one reason why training people in less commonly taught languages is important. Many rural areas of Latin America will continue to be excluded if we assume a...

The strong claim of those announcing the recent dawning of the age of man is that humans are not just spreading over the planet, but are changing the way it works.

How To Be Eco-Friendly After Death →
I love this! I never thought I would have a platform for speaking about my after-death activities….
My boyfriend knows that I don’t want to be buried. The thought of being buried underground with worms is really claustrophobic and gross to me. (I wish I had a more environmentally focused reason for not wanting to be buried but I don’t).
I always told him to donate all of...

originalemilee-deactivated20120 asked: Your blog is my favorite! Your posts are always so real and unguarded. You're confident about what you believe and you're dedicated to promoting what's important in life. I love how you always introduce ideas and causes that aren't necessarily mainstream, and I especially enjoyed your post about giving the laptops to children in underdeveloped countries. I had never considered...

But feel free to wish for songs to be translated, I'll try my best.

How Not to Save the World →
Too many bad ideas are eating up our limited resources he says, and that needs to change.
Regarding One Laptop Per Child’s $100 computers for kids, Starr argues the idea is flawed from inception: Kids just don’t need a laptop in poor countries, he says. He asks rhetorically, why would parents let their kids take the most expensive item they own to school every day? “It’s a need in our...

Kiva: Providing Loans to People with Disabilities →
The Kiva community recognizes that disabilities need not limit one’s desire or ability to hold a job, impact the community, or become financially independent. Kiva and our Field Partners support entrepreneurial spirit. We embrace a world where all people - even in the most remote areas of the globe - hold the power to create opportunity for themselves and others.

Development Initiatives and Trends
People invest in development projects based on what’s trendy. For example, a few years ago microfinance was the hot topic and people were lending left and right. As the years went by, investors looked around, nothing changed, people were still poor. So, they abandoned microfinance and picked a new cool global initiative. However, what people don’t realize is that they didn’t give...

A British atomic physicist, Joshua Silver, is liaising with the World Bank on a revolutionary project to distribute spectacles to 200 million children in developing countries. Users will be able to adjust the glasses to their own personal prescription without help from an optician.
“It is incredibly easy. You don’t need an optician, just a little bit of basic instruction,”...
